    ThuThursdayMarMarch17th2011 Training Center Update
    Pray. Plant. Reap. Repeat...
In 2011, we have already seen seven future Harvest Senior Pastors complete their Harvest Training Center residencies and internships. These men are now developing core groups at their church plant locations. Our in-depth relationships with them continues up to and beyond their fall 2011 launches through coaching calls, video conferences, graduation (at Harvest University), resourcing, and elder serving during their first year post-launch.

That does not, however, mean the Training Center has entered a season of rest. Rather, we've been preparing for and are now welcoming a new residency of six men who will also be planting, transitioning or leading Word-preaching, Christ-exalting, life-transforming Harvests this fall.

The first quarter of this year has also seen two new Harvests launch with 14 others in development. This ongoing work is accomplished only by God's unmerited favor and the partnership of 69 Harvest Bible Chapels worldwide.

Join us in this work by supporting these new residents and their training season in prayer.

    MonMondayJanJanuary3rd2011 Announcing Harvest Kathmandu

A new year, a new continent + another reason to rejoice:
Harvest Bible Chapel Kathmandu in Nepal celebrates their launch service January 8, 2011!

It is the first Harvest Bible Chapel in Asia, and this groundbreaking launch has been two years in the making—the fruit of a prayer-filled, long distance relationship that began in 2008 between Senior Pastor Timothy Dahal and Harvest Bible Fellowship's Kirk Van Maanen.

In a region where 86% of the population is Hindu and less than 2% are Christians—and in spite of the local persecution that accompanies those demographics—Pastor Timothy and the leaders of Harvest Kathmandu are undaunted.

“Today is the day for salvation, and we are working towards that end to proclaim the riches of Christ, teach God’s Word, lift high the name of Jesus in worship, and pray as we share our faith with boldness. I have a very keen desire to reach out to Hindus, Muslims, and other faiths too. In the eyes of men we are poor and incapable, but God has given me faith, boldness and His eyes to see that the fields are ripe to harvest. We believe God is doing these things we see and experience and He will do even more until His glorious return.”

By November 2010, it was time to bring this enduring relationship face-to-face. A Fellowship team, including leaders from Harvest London and Senior Pastor Norm Millar, spent a week worshiping with the church, training their leaders, and visiting their network of rural churches. [view video recap]

The team was, in turn, radically impacted by these believers' dynamic faith, and the Lord's strong presence in the midst of their circumstances—and the first Harvest launch of 2011 was added to the calendar!

“We expect the Lord to do great and mighty things in our midst, things that we have not even imagined or experienced. And in fact He is already doing this," Pastor Timothy exults. "As we reach out and move forward we see the hand of the Lord in our day—the sick are being healed and those in the clutch of the devil are being released as we pray in the mighty name of Jesus and trust him to do his work among our people. It is the work of God and the hand of God which is helping us to press on and move forward with the promise that He is building His church and the gates of hell will not prevail against it.”

Indeed, and amen! Join us in rejoicing and pray the Lord continues to uphold this church as they hold fast the Word of life...

        >> CONNECT HERE WITH OTHER NEWS HARVESTS PREPARING FOR LAUNCH IN 2011

    TueTuesdayOctOctober5th2010 Grieving with Hope

In the midst of a momentous season of church planting, we sorrowfully share the news of a sudden loss within our Fellowship. On Friday, September 24, Senior Pastor Andrew Kpah of Harvest Gianda, Liberia, went to be with the Lord. Leaving behind his wife, Martha, and their four young children, Andrew was to launch Harvest Bible Chapel Gianda on October 10, 2010.
Kirk VanMaanen, our Director of International Church Planting, has worked closely with Andrew and our Liberian churches since 2008. He received word of Andrew's passing from Harvest Paynesville's Senior Pastor Moses Wheigar, who is mourning along with our Liberian churches.

Gianda is situated deeply in the bush of Liberia. When Andrew became ill there were no medical facilities at hand, and his church family literally had to carry him out to Buchanan, where he passed early the next morning.

Pastor Moses is currently with us stateside and overseeing care for the Kpah family and the church at Gianda in their deep time of need. The five Harvest Bible Chapels in Liberia are rallying their support in tangible ways as Jesus' hands and feet, while the family has prepared Andrew's body and returned to Gianda for the burial.

    >> SEND A PRAYER CARD TO THE CHURCH AT GIANDA

Pastor Moses will return to Liberia in mid-October, and will hand deliver printed copies of your prayers and spiritual encouragements to Harvest Gianda and the Kpah family.

Let's shower them with Christ's love and send him back with sheaves...

Even as we rejoice that Andrew is now living the life we long for--fully present with Christ and more alive than he has ever been--we mourn with our brothers and sisters at Harvest Gianda, and especially with Martha and her children.

Please join us in praying for the abiding comfort of the Spirit in their lives right now, and His provision for their future needs. Pray as well for the leadership of the church at Gianda, who will move forward with their launch on October 10.

But we do not want you to be uninformed, brethren, about those who are asleep, so that you will not grieve as do the rest who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who have fallen asleep in Jesus. For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be with the Lord. Therefore comfort one another with these words.
    1 Thessalonians 4:13-18

    TueTuesdaySepSeptember21st2010 New Developments in Vienna
"Look, I tell you, lift up your eyes, and see that the fields are white for harvest." John 4:35b

We are humbled and excited to share with you another new development taking place in Harvest Bible Fellowship.

In February 2010, a group of Romanian believers living in Vienna, Austria made a bold step of faith to plant a church. This core group of 14 people longed for something new.
Committed to organizing youth conferences in Eastern Europe, this group had previously interacted with Pastor Cristian Barbosu of Arad, Romania. Knowing what God had called Pastor Cristian to in Arad, these families soon connected to explore possible next steps.

In May, the core group visited Harvest
Metanoia Arad, Romania to learn about the model and approach of being a church committed to the distinctives of Harvest Bible Chapel. They left renewed in their vision to plant a life-giving, relevant church committed to the Word of God, testimony of Jesus Christ, and the making of disciples.

In June, 27 committed members and another 30 attenders began worshiping together, desiring to become a Harvest Metanoia church.

Since this development, the leaders of Harvest Metanoia churches in Romania have continued to teach, equip and empower this group of believers. Senior Pastors from the five existing churches in Romania are preaching and instilling the commitment we share in upholding the pillars of God's Word, worship, prayer, and evangelism while making quality disciples. Materials, curricula, guides and department visions have been imparted.

Currently, the search is on for a Senior Pastor for this young church.

In October, Kirk VanMaanen, director of international church planting for Harvest Bible Fellowship, will meet in Vienna with the launch team. Our prayer is that this visit will galvanize the mission and initiate the launch of Harvest Metanoia Vienna.

This group of believers fully embrace Harvest Metanoia values and approach to discipleship. Their vision to grow into high-impact services that extend the gospel of grace to both Romanian immigrants in Vienna and native Austrians/Germans, is clear and in motion. We long for the day we are able to announce Vienna among the fellowship of churches called Metanoia.

    Pray for:

    • The provision of a Senior Pastor.
    • Harvest Bible Fellowship's visit with the launch team in October.
    • Unity, clarity and passion among leaders for implementing the core values, distinctive, and approach of Harvest Metanoia.
    • The thousands of Romanian immigrants in Vienna to be reached with the good news of Jesus.
    • The fulfillment of these believers' vision to transition to a high-impact, church-planting church to reach Austria for Christ.

Through the church the manifold wisdom of God might now be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly places. This was according to the eternal purpose that he has realized in Christ Jesus our Lord...
    Ephesians 3:10-11

As we move into a high-energy season at the Fellowship, it is evident the Lord is near.
We see His favor upon us in the building of His church according to His eternal purposes.

    • 17 new Harvest Bible Chapels will launch into ministry from September to December. 13 in North America; 4 internationally.
    • 10 new Senior Pastors in training at the Harvest Training Center for an intense season of equipping for the next wave of church planting.
    • 7 potential core groups are in development for future locations. 3 in North America; 4 internationally.
    • 46 existing Harvest Bible Chapels are being strengthened, resourced and trained at levels specific to their stages of ministry.
We praise God in what these churches, leaders, locations, and core groups represent: the Lord of the harvest sending out workers into His harvest to change lives for eternity. Praying, planting, reaping and repeating!

TueTuesdayJunJune29th2010 SPECIAL BULLETIN: A New Work on a New Continent

How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news of good things!
    Romans 10:15

The gospel of Jesus Christ is the good news that makes all things beautiful—and we are delighted to spread the word as He furthers His kingdom. July 16 marks the movement of Harvest Bible Chapel to the Australian continent, with believers coming together as a prospective launch team at the first Open House in Perth.

Harvest Bible Fellowship has connected with Frans Alberts to shepherd, lead, and develop this group into a strong core that embraces the Four Pillars and ministry model of Harvest, and grows into a team that is eager to lean into the labor of planting a new church.

A native of South Africa, Frans pursued a successful career in the UK prior to being called into full-time ministry, and completed dual master's degrees from The Master's Seminary in California. Together with his wife Christa and their two children, Frans is laying hold of the opportunity to develop this team and, Lord willing, to serve and lead a Harvest in Perth.

After transiting between Perth and California this summer, Frans will take part in a 3-month residency at the Harvest Training Center to complete his preparation for pastoral ministry.

While we continue to plan the way, we appeal to the Lord to establish our steps...and your strategic prayers are highly valued as well.

Join us in lifting this exciting endeavor and new work. Pray for:
    • Safe travel for Frans, Christa, Joshua and Hannah as they arrive in Perth for the first time.
    • The Alberts to have a sense of ‘being home’ as they meet people and share the vision of Harvest Bible Chapel.
    • Many to come to the Open House to hear the story of Harvest and vision of this new church plant.
    • The Spirit of God to minister to those who listen and motivate those He would choose to commit to this life-giving work.
    • Effective, mutual ministry and momentum as the Alberts return to Perth again in August for a second round of open houses and launch team meetings.
As we press on together to bring the good news, God's promise is unfolding...to build His Church!

    ThuThursdayJunJune17th2010 SUMMER UPDATE
What's on the agenda this summer at Harvest Bible Fellowship? A season loaded with ministry equipping, and well underway...
    Senior Pastors & Wives Retreat

In early June, the Senior Pastors and wives of our North American Harvest Bible Chapels gathered for a three-day lakeside retreat - our second annual Family Reunion. Times of worship, hearing from Pastor James, sessions on the fundamentals of marriage and ministry, and throttling down with a little R & R, made for three well-spent Wisconsin days.

    Summer Residencies
With 18 church-planting opportunities in process, this summer the Fellowship will host several pastoral residents planning to launch in the fall. Receiving a week of intensive instruction at the Harvest Elgin Campus, and returning with their families for short-term residencies in August, are future Harvest pastors preparing to launch in Fresno, California; the metro DC region of N. Virginia; and Perth, Australia.

    Elder & Leader Training

20+ years of ministry experience undergirds the planting and equipping of every Harvest Bible Chapel. One of the  benefits of this experience is the leader training that results. In May, elders from seven Harvest Bible Chapels in Ontario assembled in Barrie for an in-depth elder training with twenty-year Harvest ministry veteran Rick Donald.

This summer we are also launching a series of video conference-based trainings for Harvest pastors looking to accelerate their ministry effectiveness. Worship and Children’s Ministry directors video conference dates are in the works.

    Partnering in Missions

As a church-planting movement, our churches have no lack of short-term, cross-church opportunities. Several Harvest teams have already been dispatched to serve other Harvest sister churches; several more teams are in preparation. All will deliver support and encouragement to the receiving church plants and spiritual vitality into their own lives.

    PASSIONATELY BUILDING HIS CHURCH

    SatSaturdayAprApril24th2010 HARVEST UNIVERSITY 2010 RECAP

The stories of praise keep pouring in...
and by all accounts, this year's Harvest U was an unprecedented, two-and-a-half days of spiritual dynamite!

Over 1000 pastors, lay-leaders and ministry servants from 55 Harvest Bible Chapels and 50 additional churches gathered at the Harvest Elgin campus, April 19-21, for what turned out to be an "earth-shattering, window-rattling, life-altering" conference.

    • Worship times led by world-class local and international Harvest worship leaders were anointed, drawing diverse tribes and nations and tongues into the presence and glory of God, with a deep sense of awe and corporate oneness words cannot aptly describe.
    • Teaching and direction delivered by James MacDonald, Kent Shaw, and a host of Harvest leaders underscored powerfully the intent of 2 Timothy 2:2, "and what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men who will be able to teach others also."
    • Dedicated team-building time and practical tools furthered the work by creating an architecture for ministries to hammer out customized application and identify their own next steps.
The bottom line? Attendees from 10 different nations and all facets of ministry were ignited and equipped with renewed passion, purpose, and plans for effectively ministering the gospel of Jesus Christ. Words like "life-changing", "ministry-renewing", "paradigm-shifting" and "God-glorifying" echoed in the halls, filled evaluation forms, continue to hit our inboxes, and, we pray, are reverberating in the hearts and lives of all who took part.

With testimonies and high-water marks too numerous to list, we can only give adoration, praise, and glory to our great God and Savior, who did and is working far more abundantly beyond all we'd asked or imagined.

Indeed, God IS passionate about building His church...and so are we!

    Your servants for His sake,

Reflecting on the past year in our Fellowship confirms the Word of God: He will, indeed,
    build His church.

Our Annual Report recounts His marvelous work in our midst in 2009. Click the image below to view and download a copy for yourself, and rejoice with us.

Every church listed represents the faithful proclamation of God's unchanging Word...the continual prayer and active engagement of many disciples...and thousands of lives being discipled and transformed with ever-increasing measure into the image of Christ.

As we seek the Lord's favor to continue planting churches and equipping them for ministry in the year ahead, we anticipate fifteen new Harvest Bible Chapels on the North American and international horizon. Watch our web site for the
latest news on each in turn.

TueTuesdayFebFebruary23rd2010 Welcome Harvest Metanoia Ploiesti, Romania

In 2009, a gathering of believers in Ploiesti, Romania (a city just 56km [35 mi] north of Bucharest, population of 239,500) began asking the questions that we at Harvest asked some 21 years ago...

    • What if there was a church that believed God actually wrote a book called the Bible?
    • What if there was a church were people had as their first and most fervent focus, the adoration of God's Son?
    • What if there was a church that believed God was actually listening when we prayed?
    • What if there was a church that believed the field is truly "ripe to harvest"?
    Sound familiar?

Our Sovereign Lord brought these believers into contact with Harvest Metanoia in Arad, Romania. So began the steps toward planting a life-giving work in Ploiesti committed to the same four pillars, to contemporary worship without compromise, to a focus on quality disciple-making and to elder governance...and a worshiping body of Christ was formed!

The Lord then led this body, along with leaders from both Metanoia and Harvest Bible Fellowship, on a journey to consider the shepherding of His church.
While in Arad celebrating Metanoia's five-year anniversary last November, Harvest Bible Fellowship was introduced to a like-minded Romanian, Cristi Pana, and a leadership team in Ploiesti. Recently returning to Romania after finishing his Masters of Divinity at The Master's Seminary in Sun Valley, California, Cristi had also pastored local churches in Bucharest, Pasadena and La Mirada. Though he and his wife Rodica had established their family of five in the States, Cristi was compelled to bring his ministry home.

Sr. Pastor Cristian Barbosu of Metanoia Arad writes, "When I heard that Cristi Pana came back home from the U.S.A., I called him right away and purchased a train ticket for him to come to my house the next day from Bucharest - nine hours away. I knew Cristi's passion for expository preaching, his strong desire to start a new church built on the Word of God and his fervent heart for the lost. I said to myself, he must see Metanoia and Harvest, because he breathes and lives what we are all about!"

Their strong sense of like-mindedness led to a review of this pastor's qualifications, gifts, and calling. On January 10, 2010, Cristi Pana was appointed as Senior Pastor of Biserica Crestina Baptista Metanoia Ploiesti.

Today, we formally introduce Metanoia Ploiesti into the Harvest Bible Fellowship family of churches in partnership with Metanoia Arad, Romania. Join us in celebrating what Christ has done!

From Sr. Pastor Cristi Pana's heart: "God has called me to preach His Word in an expository manner, to lead His local church to reach its highest potential to serve this dying world, and to work with a team of brothers in order to implement the vision of the church. My intention is that Metanoia Ploiesti be a church with high impact in the secular society in order to be instruments through which men and women will come to a saving faith in Christ Jesus. This is my call, this is my duty!"

Pastor Cristi's fervor continues... "Metanoia Ploiesti is a church with a strong desire to be of another kind. It is the time when we are called to live our transformed life among people in Ploiesti and we assumed this challenge. We are not perfect but our heart beats in the same rhythm and in the same direction with our partners Harvest-Metanoia. We are a small church with a big vision and a huge God! This is why we located ourselves in the center of Ploiesti, renting the biggest hall in the city, Patria Theater! It is a matter of faithfulness and vision to fill up this hall! This is our hope, this is our purpose!"

And making an eternal impact in our local sphere is the hope and purpose all Harvest Bible Chapels hold in common. Pray with us for the Lord's favor, protection, and power to be manifest in His church - in Ploiesti, across Romania, and around the world!
ThuThursdayJanJanuary28th2010 2009 International Review: Let the Earth Hear His Voice

"Gather the people to me, that I may let them hear my words, so that they may learn to fear me all the days that they live on the earth, and that they may teach their children so" (Deuteronomy 4:10).

The question we've been asking ourselves: How do we effectively integrate the resources of Harvest churches and their missions energy with Harvest Bible Fellowship and its passion for church planting?

God has shown with great clarity and urgency that as we leverage the strengths of one another, He causes the church to flourish in spiritually desolate areas of the world. Today, by God's grace, Harvest Bible Fellowship is creating and sustaining a climate for international church planting by customizing strategies and partnering churches within the Fellowship to plant vibrant, healthy, reproducing churches, as well as networking with partners to expand our reach.

It is with great joy that we share this 2009 International Review and demonstrate how God is making His voice heard through Harvest Bible Fellowship in all the earth.

Get behind the scenes of the dynamic, fruitful ministries of Harvest Bible Chapels across the continent and around the globe. Our keynote speaker, Harvest Bible Chapel Founding and Senior Pastor James MacDonald, will kick off this two and a half-days of intensive training is tailored for multiple areas of ministry. We're ready to help equip you in your calling to build His church.

Harvest U 2010 has a fresh focus—pre-conference sessions, intentional team times, and fewer (but more impactful) workshops. Teaching is targeted more toward church size and how to help your ministry break through to the next stage of growth and fruitbearing.

Track details and preliminary schedule below. Note the track best geared for your primary ministry role or interest and select that track when registering.

NEW FOR 2010: Each track encompasses 5 workshops, geared when possible toward stages of church growth. Workshop topics may expand beyond general track descriptions.

    TRACKS

      Pursuing the Great Commission:

At Harvest, the mission of the Church is Missions...and the mission of Missions Is the Church. Here the Great Commission becomes intensely practical through behind-the-scenes exposure to Harvest Global Missions and Local Compassion Ministries. Learn how Harvest churches are partnering to leverage the strengths of the whole and to accelerate the building of His Church in these critical last days.

Fixing Your Focus for Maximum Impact:

From the opening song to the closing “Amen,” what is your worship service driving toward? Is there a focused intentionality behind every element of every service that aligns with the goal of an encounter with the living God? And is every key leader on that page? From greeting, to worship, to announcements, to preaching, to prayer, to multi-media—glean the practicals distilled from twenty years of ministry that can help create an atmosphere of high impact at your weekend services.

      Zeroing In on Dynamic Discipleship:

Robust small groups breathe life into every other facet of a church—in fact, they’re the very core of our discipleship model at Harvest Bible Chapel. Learn why and how to develop, implement, and/or re-tool your own healthy, dynamic and effective Small Group Ministry.

      Making Harvest Their Home:

Do you offer a clear path for people to begin and grow in healthy relationships within your church body—and do they know what that path is? Lay hold of an intentional plan to help move people not just into membership, but into transformed lives that Worship, Walk with, and Work for Christ.

      Equipping the Faithful Effectively:

Fruitful ministry requires the cultivation and multiplication of godly leaders. Strengthen your ability to: identify elders and ministry leaders; build into a core team or leaders at multiple levels; and mature your own leadership skills under the teaching of highly effective and experienced Harvest staff and elders.

Caring for Souls (and Changing Their Lives):

Authentic believers have a hope that will never disappoint and access to everything pertaining to life and godliness. Yet the church continues to send people in crisis to counselors that offer humanistic help instead of heart transformation! Shift this paradigm by learning to counsel from the life-changing truths of the Bible...and bring authentic hope to your sphere of ministry influence.

    Living and Leveraging God’s Design:

Ladies, refresh your calling to ministry opportunities the Lord has uniquely designed women to fulfill. Dive into the how-to’s of building and growing a flourishing ministry to women that focuses on discipleship, leader development, small groups, motherhood, and counseling issues in churches of varying sizes and stages of development.

      Helping Kids Take Higher Ground:

From the basics of establishing a Children’s Ministry, to teaching methods and Harvest curriculum (available Fall of 2010!), to staffing, security and volunteer matters, these workshops address aspects and issues that have impact on churches across the spectrum.

      Creating Cross-Centered Connections:

Effectively connecting students with the power of Christ can change their lives—and reverberate through their families for eternity. Learn how to build deeper connections with your middle and high school youth, while strengthening not only their Worship, but their Walk (relationships at home, at school) and Work (plugging into serving roles within the church) for Christ, to galvanize their faith and equip this next generation of ambassadors.

      Holding Fast the Faithful Word:

We’ll turn to the Book for the bottom line on the biblical role and responsibilities of elders, then work that out with practical applications for various church size-settings. Appropriate use of Scripture toward conflict resolution and discipline, restoring of relationships, honoring the Lord and protecting the bride of Christ are just a sampling of the topics being brought forth by well-versed elders of several Harvest churches.

A one-word summary of what's going on around Harvest Bible Fellowship: MOMENTUM. And as we approach the year's end, we're excited to share some of it with you...

    We're Planting Churches.
By God's grace this work and the labors of many have brought about the launch of 10 Harvest Bible Chapels thus far in 2009: 8 in North America, 1 in Liberia, 1 in Scotland. In addition, 2 new Harvests are scheduled to launch this month in Romania.

    We're Equipping for Ministry.
In October, 40 of our Senior Pastors took part in "The Gathering," a collaborative 2-day conference at the Harvest Elgin Campus. This meeting afforded the rare opportunities to encourage one-another and sharpen our collective focus on the ministry aspects and characteristics that define Harvest Bible Chapel and our church planting movement. [more photos]

    We're Training Future Pastors.
Out of an original sixty applicants, six men were selected for the Harvest Training Center residency program, and are currently in their second month. This season of training and ministry immersion (eight months in all) is dedicated to shaping these outstanding seminary grads into the next generation of passionate, called and qualified Harvest pastors.

    We're Developing Opportunities.
The 2010 horizon holds an abundance of opportunities. We are prayerfully exploring the potentials of planting or transitioning new Harvest Bible Chapels in Arizona, Colorado, Illinois, Florida, Missouri, South Dakota, Texas; Alberta, Canada; St. Vincent Islands; Liberia; and Argentina.

This work is clearly the Lord's doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes! (Psalm 118:23) We are leaning hard into the labor that planting and equipping life-giving churches entails, and constantly seeking God's wisdom, direction, and provision for the needs that are before us and our churches.

Jesus said, "Behold...lift up your eyes and look on the fields, that they are white for harvest" (John 4:35). If reaching North America and around the world to make and mobilize disciples of Jesus Christ resonates with you, we would be honored to have you partner with us. See Connect for more information on how you can Pray, Give, and Go!

FriFridaySepSeptember18th2009 Harvest Liberia Builds a School

These are real people, real children...young lives who are suffering to a degree in which most of us cannot even begin to relate.

Their third-world backdrop is gripping. A fourteen-year civil war forced young boys to become soldiers, killed, wounded, and displaced thousands, and left their country without basic infrastructure. Schools were burnt, destroyed, looted, and those that survived cannot provide adequate education...students are without desks, electricity, running water, qualified teachers.  Compounding the problem, 80% of the population lives on less than $1 a day and unemployment is at 70%.

Liberia is slowly recovering.  Despite obstacles that seem insurmountable, there is hope. The Lord is stirring and the people of Liberia are hungry for restoration, including education. And they are profoundly grateful for any assistance in pursuing it.

Harvest Bible Fellowship is committed to ministering to basic local needs as each international church plant begins to mature and flourish. In addition to our well-drilling and food projects, for Liberia this means an ongoing opportunity to educate local children and others longing for instruction.

To that end, check out the video and see how the Harvest Bible Chapel in Paynesville is achieving what many in Liberia consider only a dream.

(click image below to view video)

For the past year, against all cultural odds, the worship center of Harvest Paynesville has been home to SOGA-Harvest Christian Academy! Senior Pastor Moses Wheigar and Associate Pastor Roosevelt David direct this little school. Woven-palm branch shades divided it into six classrooms to accommodate 75 students from Muslim, non-Christian, and Christian backgrounds.

Given the significant obstacles Liberia continues to face in its recovery, this school's existence is attributable only to the grace and hand of God!  Through the generosity of Elgin's Harvest Christian Academy, a new and entirely separate temporary structure was built to accommodate more than 90 students.

And the story does not end there. Our God is able to perform exceedingly beyond all we could ask or imagine—and as Jesus is lifted high through the church at Paynesville, we are convinced of better things for their community and throughout their country.

In fact, a third Liberian church is scheduled to transition to a Harvest this fall, and the opportunity is before us to launch an additional three rural Liberian churches in the next two years!

The needs are great and these fields are ripe...so what can you do?

Harvest Bible Fellowship would covet your prayers for the church-planting ministry the Lord has granted us in Liberia.

    Specifically, pray for:
    • This school to be a place where God's Word is proclaimed and Christ is exalted in the lives of all who attend.
    • Salvation for the non-Christian and Muslim students and their sanctifying influence over their families.
    • Strength, protection, and wisdom for Pastor Moses the HCA teachers.
    • God's provision to build a long-term, permanent structure.
If you'd like to know more about how we are impacting lives in Liberia or how you can become involved with a partnership opportunity contact the Fellowship at .

Come, you children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the LORD.
    Psalm 34:11

    NEW HARVESTS ON THE HORIZON

As a movement of church planting, it is always exciting to announce upcoming church plant launches, and we rejoice as Sunday, August 16 kicked off the first of several this fall.

Harvest Glasgow launched under the leadership of Scott Hamilton, which we trust is just the first of several Harvest Bible Chapels in Scotland and the U.K.

Heading into September, Harvest Raleigh (Mike Willis) and Harvest Palos (Ryan Hall) launch on September 13. Harvest Miami (Jason Fevig) and Harvest Brampton (Ted Duncan) launch on September 20, and Harvest Cambridge will be re-launched (Jacob Reaume) later this fall.
See the corresponding story, New Harvests on the Horizon for
    launch dates and prayer details.

In addition, two church transitions are slated for October/November along with two new Romanian plant launches...add to that the launch of Wicker Park (the fifth satellite campus of big Harvest) and Lord willing, there will be worshipers in 50 Harvest Bible Chapel locations by the year’s end!

And we know that this is not of us, but of our almighty God as He glorifies His name in our churches and our lives.

One of our pillars at Harvest is believing firmly in the power of prayer. Please join with us to pray for these men and this work. As church planters, unique challenges lay before them and together we have desperate need for the Spirit of God to guide, guard, and give life.

In pursuit of the One who is the ruler of the kings of the earth (Revelation 1:5),

O taste and see that the LORD is good! How blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him!
    Psalm 34:8

This was our heart intent as Harvest Bible Fellowship staff headed to off to camp (a conference center with a storied past in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin) in preparation for our annual Harvest Senior Pastors Retreat.

"Family Reunion 2009" gathered the Senior Pastors of almost every North American Harvest Bible Chapel, together with their wives, for refuge and refreshment...three June days of green pastures and quiet waters.

The hours spent together in fellowship, worship (led by John Dirkse, Harvest Rockford), and instruction from the Word (given by James MacDonald, Harvest Bible Chapel; Norm Millar, Harvest London; Todd Dugard, Harvest Barrie) fast became a fresh well to drink deeply from, and were greatly used of the Lord in strengthening cross-pulpit relationships and encouraging both pastors and wives.

Catch a glimpse of this sweet time by clicking the graphic below.

    At the Fellow
ship it's our privilege and joy to bless and support these men who shepherd the flock of God and lean into the burden of preaching the Word in life-changing ministries week after week, year upon year.

And even as we invest significant energy in maximizing opportunities to do so through our communications and ministry events, we recognize our most powerful means of blessing and supporting is through targeted prayer...a ministry that a growing number of believers have begun to partner with us in.

If our mission to plant and build churches that uphold the faithful preaching of God's Word aligns with your heart, we'd invite you to join us in this strategic labor. A series of brief video introductions of each Harvest pastor sharing how to pray specifically for them and their churches is viewable here at Covering His Church.

As challenging as our world climate has become, the Lord continues to move with grace and favor in the planting and launching of a number of Harvest churches on the near horizon.
    • Also scheduled to launch this fall are five new Harvests in North America, being planted by last year's Training Center grads, in Brampton, Ontario; Lexington, Kentucky; Miami, Florida; Palos, Illinois; and Raleigh, North Carolina, along with our first U.K. plant in Glasgow, Scotland. Another new "granddaughter" Harvest is set to launch internationally as well in Ghioroc, Romania (planted by Harvest Arad). Which means, Lord willing, in just a few short months there will seven be new churches where the Word is being proclaimed, Christ is being lifted high, and lives are being changed for all of eternity!
    • In addition, five incoming Harvest Training Center residents have been selected for the 2009-2010 class, with core groups currently growing and awaiting four of them in Austin, Texas; Calgary, Alberta; Kansas City, Kansas; and Pickering, Ontario.
"O Lord GOD, You have begun to show Your servant Your greatness and Your strong hand; for what god is there in heaven or on earth who can do such works and mighty acts as Yours?" Deuteronomy 3:24

    TueTuesdayMarMarch17th2009 Equipping the Faithful - Spring 2009
The launching of twelve new Harvests in 2008, as well as pouring into our Training Center residents, installing elders at several churches, and overseeing pre-launch preparations for national and international plants on the 2009 horizon have kept the calendar pages turning faster than we can keep up!

But we are continually rejoicing, because God has been at work in our midst in mighty ways.  And we can't wait to tell you about it...at Harvest University.

    • Undergirding this year's dynamic teaching will be an unprecedented celebration of God's goodness in the sweeping growth and health we are experiencing throughout the Fellowship.

    • In addition, we're anticipating the HU launch of Sharpen, a rich new communications platform developed exclusively for Harvest Senior Pastors. (And if you're in that category, more details will hit your inbox in early April.)

    • Also new for '09 are teaching tracks for Senior Pastors and Transitioning a Church, along with thirteen other workshop-oriented, excellence-building tracks.
And with our Harvest Training Center residents graduating the evening of Tuesday, April 28, this will be a University you won't want to miss! We believe the Lord has much in store to equip and refresh your mind, your spirit, your ministry and your staff.

So if you haven't already, I'd strongly encourage you to block your calendar, book your travel, and bump your online registration to the top of the list.

"What you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men who will be able to teach others also."  2 Timothy 2:2

    TueTuesdayOctOctober21st2008 Fellowship News - Fall 2008

The fall season is upon us and it brings far more than cooler weather and a brilliant change of color. Fall also brings a new ministry year in all of our Harvest Bible Chapels.

Much hard work has taken place over the summer as our churches prepare to take the gospel to our neighborhoods and around the world, as well as to grow disciples. We praise God for all the effort being spent to exalt the Lord Jesus and offer living water to thirsty communities in North America and Romania. We rest in God’s promise that His Word will not come back empty, but will accomplish all His purposes (Isaiah 55:10-11).

And fall at the Fellowship has been very busy also. In September we launched five new churches: Arthur, Illinois; Houston, Texas; Muskoka, Ontario; Orlando, Florida; and Phoenix, Arizona. We praise God for the wonderful privilege of starting new Harvest Bible Chapels - and Lord willing, by the end of 2008, we will have launched five more! Decatur, Illinois; Turks & Caicos, BWI; Asheville, North Carolina; Cambridge, Ontario; and Monrovia, Liberia.

Please pray for God’s protection and favor for our new churches. We long to see them flourish with great fruitfulness and honor our Father in heaven (John 15:8).

Finally, it was great to see so many of you at the Straight Up Conference. I thought it was the best conference yet. It is a tremendous encouragement to see you and hear of the fruit produced in your churches. Pictured above are the Senior Pastors of most of our Harvest Bible Chapels, as we gathered at Straight Up.

We are looking forward to God’s work in the days ahead.

    Kent C. Shaw
    Executive Director, Harvest Bible Fellowship

God did something amazing three years ago, when He brought five families together in central Illinois to plant a church with a commitment to solid biblical teaching and evangelism within their community. His amazing work expanded as Harvest Christian Fellowship transitioned and officially re-launched as Harvest Bible Chapel Arthur on September 7.

Over 100 people came to celebrate this new work, which was the culmination of much prayer and sacrifice. The worship service began with music and celebration, and Pastor Tony Caffey started a series on 1 Peter entitled, "Run the Earth, Watch the Sky."

Two weeks post-launch brought a baptismal service where four souls made a public declaration of their faith in Jesus Christ. Continuing to serve the central Illinois area, Harvest Arthur seeks to make mature disciples of Jesus Christ who are committed to God's Word and sharing the good news of salvation through Him.

Harvest Bible Chapel Houston NW transitioned into action on Sunday, September 7. What began last year with 54 people in a living room has already grown into two services, with attendance of about 250.

Preparing for whatever God wanted to do on that Sunday, the majority of the leadership team of roughly 130 served in some capacity - whether in the parking lot, serving coffee, greeting, ushering, teaching, or leading - with anticipation and excitement.

And the Lord allowed the destruction of Hurricane Ike to draw them even closer together. Generators were being rotated throughout the body. Several members opened their homes to host those without power and/or water…many more helped repair and clean up where necessary. Ike presented opportunity for the church to be the church.

In the opening service, communion was shared for the first time as a Harvest Bible Chapel. Pastor Buddy Riddle introduced his yearlong sermon platform, “Heart Healthy,” focusing on the importance of guarding your heart in Proverbs 4:23. It was a great day - and a great day to be in the house of the Lord.

The launch of Harvest Bible Chapel Muskoka made it clear that people were praying - the worship was Spirit-filled and passionate, the details were more than taken care of (with only a couple of glitches), and people showed up - quite a crowd for their little town! Pastor Kaj Ballantyne can't help but tear up every time he reflects on it.

Muskoka is blessed with a worship team full of true worshipers and a core group pumped to reach their community. As Kaj charges, "Now on to the work! God is so good, and we are just praying that each Sunday and each day of ministry onward is one where we are surrendered completely to Him and where He continues to show up in huge ways!"

The Lord is doing a new thing in Orlando - and it's marvelous in our eyes! The first public service of Harvest Bible Chapel Orlando was energized with prayer and anticipation, and the core group serving in multiple ways for the 100-plus attenders.

The excitement and passion were amplified in worship, which led the call to consider God's heart for their city.  Kicking off the ministry season, Pastor Joel Anderson brought the Word with “The Next Step: A Study in the Life of Abraham,” and a challenge to make God’s call personal and to respond authentically.

Now growing together as a body of disciples, this church plant is getting after the harvest God is raising in Orlando.

God is at work in Phoenix, AZ! Early in 2008, the leadership of Harvest Rolling Meadows determined it was time for North Phoenix to transition from an extension campus to an official church plant. After much prayer, Bill Borinstein was called to be the new Senior Pastor and work began on "re-launching" the church on September 7.

Following a day of hitting the streets on September 6 with a "Get Out the Word" campaign that reached well over 2,000 homes, Harvest Bible Chapel North Phoenix celebrated its new beginning with a new message series from the book of Joshua entitled, "StepUp! Leadership Lessons from the Life of Joshua."

With 158 people in attendance, God was exalted and everyone was challenged through His Word to step it up in their daily lives with Him, and to settle for nothing less than being world-changers for Christ.

This fall the Harvest Training Center is pleased to welcome four men called to minister,
as the Lord wills, in future Harvest church plants.

Trent, who is preparing to pastor a church plant in Granger, IN, is married to his wife Andrea. Together they have four children: Brooke, Zachary, Allison, and Leah.

His favorite Bible verse is Acts 20:24. Trent explained, “God used this verse to thrust me into ministry and sustain me when it was difficult to continue. It reminds me of the importance of finishing well.”

The core group in Granger is sold out on the Harvest distinctives and has a big vision for their church to unapologetically proclaim truth for the purpose of growing disciples for Jesus. Trent is both humbled by the opportunity to lead this future plant and passionate for the body to demonstrate the core values of Christ’s church.

Randy came to the Harvest Training Center from Cambridge, Ontario, to where he has returned to transition a church. He is married to Martha and together they have three sons: Zac, Ben, and Pete.

2 Corinthians 5:21 is compelling to Randy as it speaks with clarity on the person and work of Christ and on the event of redemption.

Also compelling is the leadership team in Cambridge - people who are genuine in their love for God and others, and are excited to hone in with a laser focus on the work of the Kingdom.

Zygmunt will take on the task of planting a Harvest in Wroclaw, Poland. He is married to Maria with whom he has five children: Wojtek, Ela, Piotr, Patryk, and Marcin; and is further blessed with two grandchildren: Zuzia and Olaf.

Zygmunt’s favorite Bible verse comes from Isaiah 6:8, which called him to ministry after his conversion in 1965.

The people of Wroclaw (one of the biggest historical cities in Poland, with a population of about 800,000) are open for new ideas, and those in this core group are very serious about sharing the Gospel with others and helping them grow spiritually. According to Zygmunt, the Harvest hallmarks of solid doctrine, contemporary worship, and emphasis on small groups and spiritual maturity are “exactly what we need in Wroclaw.”

Meet the 2008-2009 Class of the Harvest Training Center in our next edition.

    FriFridayJulJuly18th2008 Fellowship News - July 2008
    Welcome!

...To our first Harvest Bible Fellowship Newsletter. In these busy and challenging days, Harvest Bible Fellowship is committed to keeping you informed of all the exciting things that are taking place in our Fellowship. In the Newsletters to come, you will be receiving timely updates on new church plants and existing plants. You will have the opportunity to meet new Senior Pastors as well as find out about new initiatives in our Fellowship. The purpose of the newsletter transcends keeping you informed. Ultimately we want you to rejoice and be glad with us for all that the living God is doing. Please help us by sending to us reports of what God is doing in our midst.

We all know that to date, we have planted 27 Harvest Bible Chapels . But did you know that in 2007, our church plants, (excluding Rolling Meadows, Elgin, Niles and Crystal Lake) baptized 475 people. If we include all Harvest Bible Chapels, more than 1,100 people were baptized last year. Praise God! Also, in our church plants, we have more than 5,000 people actively involved in small groups. God’s Spirit is moving and working in our midst. Let’s rejoice in the Lord Jesus and the power of the gospel to radically transform lives.

For your encouragement, here is a video of a great baptism service .

So far in 2008, we have planted in Jacksonville, Florida and Indianapolis West . In the next several weeks, we will have the opportunity to plant in Decatur Illinois , Muskoka Ontario , Orlando Florida , Phoenix Arizona , Houston Texas , Turks & Caicos Islands (Caribbean) , Arthur Illinois , Wroclaw Poland , Braila Romania and Cordoba Argentina . This month we are planting in Braila Romania and we would like to give more detailed information about Braila.

Braila is a city in eastern Romania, a port on the Danube and the 10th largest city of the country. Having only one Baptist church, this city is rooted in traditionalism and the Orthodox Church. Marius Mezin, Sr. Pastor, has been recommended by Cristian Barbosu of Harvest Church Plant, Metanoia of Arad, Romania for a new work in Braila.

Marius is thirty-seven years old, graduate of the Baptist Seminary in Bucharest and has served for fourteen years as a Youth Pastor and Worship Leader. In 2007, Marius became certain regarding the calling to start a new church plant to bring renewal and revival to the city. The church he was on staff with in Braila has released Marius to begin a new work and called 150 members to partner in this endeavor. Marius and his leadership team visited Church Plant, Metanoia of Arad, for initial training and were of the same mind that this is the model of church they desired to plant. The humility and like-mindedness in all of the leadership at both churches was of One Spirit. It was obvious to all that God had prepared the hearts and minds of those involved.

Marius and one of his leaders then made a trip to HBF for a week of training and intense learning of Harvest Church Planting. After visiting HBF, they returned, presented the plan to leadership and the core team resulting in a unanimous decision to plant Metanoia of Braila. We are pleased to announce Metanoia of Braila is an offical Church of Harvest Bible Fellowship and the second Church Plant in Romania. Join us in celebrating this new work.

Marius is currently preaching a series on the pillars of Harvest and will begin seven small groups to kick off their ministry season in September. They currently are meeting in a youth ministry building and have already launched with weekend services, children’s ministry and qualified leadership. Please be in prayer as they search for a Pastor of Worship Ministry and Children’s Ministry.

We are grateful to the Lord for the gifted men he is sending to us to plant churches. In this newsletter, we want to introduce you to three of our new Sr. Pastors. We have asked them several questions in order for you to get to know them better:

Bill came to us from Prestonwood Baptist Church in Plano, Texas. Bill served in several capacities at Prestonwood including Minister of Men, Minster of Small Groups and Discipleship and Minister of Spiritual Development.

Bill has a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Political Science from Pitzer College. Bill is in the process of completing a Master of Theology from Liberty University.

Wife and Children: Pam, Andrew 23, Blake 16, Brett 13

Best things about your wife and children:
They love the Lord more than me. My wife is an incredible helpmate and serves our family and pours into women. Blake and Brett challenge their peers in their walk.

Interesting fact about you that few people know:
I came to Christ late in life (10 ½ years ago). I served the god of business for 20 years. Now I am serving the God of salvation.

Bible verse or passage that means a lot to you and why:
1 Timothy 1:12 – I knew that it was the Lord that put me into the ministry, due to my faithfulness to Him. He strengthens me daily to work wholeheartedly for Him. I know that serving Him is a great opportunity and responsibility.

Best things about the people and location of your church:
The people of our church are faithful to the Word of God. They have been watching videos for almost two years due to their hunger for God’s truth. We have found that Phoenix is open to the gospel; we just have to be faithful to share it.

Why do you want your church to be a Harvest Bible Chapel?
Harvest is committed to pointing people to Jesus and not to man. As I have met the other plant pastors, I have been impressed with their unyielding commitment to preach the Word, pray, worship the Lord, and share Christ. Why would I not want to be a part of that?

Tony also comes to Harvest from the great state of Texas. His undergraduate degree is from the University of Texas. Following his time at UT, he received a MDiv from Moody Graduate School , A ThM from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School and is working on his PhD in Old Testament from Trinity. Tony’s ministry experience has been as a youth pastor in Longview Texas.

Wife and Children: Sanja and Alastair (16 months old)

Best things about your wife and children:
Even though she is an accountant by trade, my wife has numerous talents including singing, cooking, art, sports and languages. She is a real renaissance woman. Alastair is a fantastic dancer even though he is only 16 months old.

Interesting fact about you that few people know:
I cry every time I hear the song Creed sung by Rich Mullins

Bible verse or passage that means a lot to you and why:
“Iappeal to you, therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” Romans 12:1-2

I associate this passage with my call to ministry. What more could I offer the Lord in light of his mercy than my life?

Best things about the people and location of your church:
Our church members are incredibly hospitable, genuine, can caring. They reflect a lot of the values of a small town culture. Also, they are very self-reliant, which is less common in larger cities.

Why do you want your church to be a Harvest Bible Chapel?
There is no resisting the Holy Spirit. Also, I want to be a part of a church-planting organization that is as passionate about worship and the Word of God as I am.

Buddy comes to Harvest with one of the more interesting backgrounds of a Senior Pastor. For many years, Buddy served as an undercover narcotics police officer for the City of Houston. In addition, Buddy spent a year in Iraq training Iraqi policemen. Buddy’s ministry experience was serving as Pastor of Counseling and Discipleship at Metropolitan Baptist Church in Houston. Buddy received a graduate degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary .

Wife and Children: Maureen, Curtis and Stephanie

Best things about your wife and children:
My wife is a tower of strength. She has been supportive through years of trials as the wife of an undercover police officer and several injuries in the line of duty. Her growth as a Christian in the last few years has been a joy to watch. Both my children are believers and my son is engaged and will be finishing his masters in missions in prep for the mission filed. My daughter is growing and maturing daily in her walk and is evidenced in her daily decisions.

Interesting fact about you that few people know:

I am a pilot and love to do acrobatic flying.

Bible verse or passage that means a lot to you and why:
91st Psalm – I used this Psalm in daily devotions with my Army unit in Iraq. It gave me the opportunity to share the Gospel with these guys. It has a huge military history that I was unaware of until after I shared it.

Best things about the people and location of your church:
I have a wonderful mature body of believers who love the Lord and each other. They have a heart for sharing the gospel. We are located in one of the fastest growing areas of the U.S. and I hear from people over and over that they can’t find a church where God’s Word is preached and taught.

Why do you want your church to be a Harvest Bible Chapel?
We are in complete agreement with Harvest Bible Chapel philosophy of ministry and we believe that God is blessing our church and blessing Harvest Bible Fellowship and together we are expecting God to do great things.
